Shadow of the Tomb Raider‘s steady stream of challenge tomb download content has been consistent in its lacklustre quality, if nothing else. Short episodes with weak challenges and uninteresting plots haven’t enhanced what was already a so-so game to begin with, so it rests on this final piece of DLC to attempt to rectify that.
The Path Home is the first and only add-on that requires the main game to be completed before attempting it. That in itself is a shame, as more could have been done in other DLCs to expand on Lara and some other characters in post final battle events. Regardless, this seventh piece of content sees Lara attempting to find out what happened to the Yaaxil, who helped her out in the main adventure.
In San Juan, an underground cave hides the last of Trinity’s soldiers, leaving Lara to utilise underwater stealth and some ground combat to finally put them to bed for good, which leads her to following the linear path to what looks to be something of a decent puzzle in the challenge tomb.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much effort required to get through this one, with simple stepping on switches and running past halls before spikes kill Lara, to shifting a giant statue’s limbs around into the correct spots with levers the only major aspects of the area. The statue may need some fiddling and back-and-forthing between two sides of the room to get the limbs in the right parts, but there is nothing overly difficult here that pushes the gears. Short and disappointing. This could and should have been so much more as the final DLC. Lara gains a new outfit, a bow, and the ability to consume fewer resources when crafting ammo upon completion.
